Relationship Conference 2019: Talking Straight: Real Conversations, Safe Relationships, Empathic Future for Boomers, Millennials and GenX is designed to help people gain reliable, effective, dialogic communication skills.
When two people come together, they have a choice: to move toward Peace/Connection/Understanding or to move toward Conflict/Disconnection and even violence. Sadly, a lot of people choose conflict because their communication skills lead them to view their own reality as the only acceptable view. The language they utilize is a language that intimidates, punishes, discourages and disconnects them from people who disagree with them. In addition, our cultural practice of blame teaches people that it is ok to express anger if it is justified without teaching us to take responsibility for the impact that anger has on us and those around us.
The core principles of Talking Straight is safety and respect for others’ opinions – which promotes creativity, innovation and solutions. All of which are harder to achieve in a tense, negative and competitive discussion environment.
