I am a culturally attuned therapist with over 20 years experience. Through my clinical work, research, teaching, and advocacy efforts, I have developed a skillset that allows me to make meaningful contributions to clients and organizations.
As a couples therapist, I work extensively with Imago relationship therapy and attachment integrating two highly effective modalities for strengthening relational bonds, communication, intimacy, and conflict resolution between partners. I have the ability to create a safe yet challenging space that has enabled countless couples to heal attachment wounds, break harmful patterns, and rediscover deeper loving connection. I am adept at cultivating hope and possibility in situations where partners have lost faith.
In my work with groups and individuals, I have excelled at establishing rapport with reluctant or distrustful clients to promote self-reflection, vulnerability, growth and transformation. My non-judgmental presence coupled with compassionate insight empowers clients to enact positive changes. I take a non-pathologizing approach to mental health that addresses clients’ emotional, physical, spiritual, cultural and community needs.
My trauma-informed care of adolescents and families draws on the power of relationships to restore stability amidst crisis. And through home-based family therapy, I have guided families on the brink toward reconciliation. My mental health outreach and counseling in the wake of natural disasters, such as, Hurricane Katrina has ingrained in me the power and strength of the human spirit.
In addition to direct clinical service, I am deeply passionate about social justice in theory and practice, equity, creating a relational civilizational, ongoing learning, community collaboration, program development, leadership and mentoring new professionals. These enables me to expand my impact beyond the therapy room.
